Happy Bell Let's Talk Day!
We hope you are taking time today to send many texts and tweets to raise awareness and funds for mental health initiatives as part of Bell Let's Talk Day Campaign!
For those who don't know, Bell is donating 5 cents to mental health initiatives all day today for every text, mobile and long distance call made to/from Bell, tweet using #BellLetsTalk and sharing of their facebook image (read more details here). So, take advantage of this great opportunity to reach out to some loved ones and spread some awareness about why mental health is important to you!
While you tweet, share, text and call to raise funds for mental health initiatives, we think the meaning of this day really lies in the title- let's TALK! Here are some tips on bringing up mental health and mental illness in the workplace.
- For when you think your co-worker needs help: "I've noticed you've been really tired/distracted/stressed/etc. the past little while. Are you doing OK? Do you want to talk?"
- For when you need support: "I've noticed I've not been myself the past few weeks. I think I need support. Can you help me get in contact with someone who can help?"
- For when someone in the lunch room calls you OCD because you organize your lunch every day: "Actually, OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder) is a serious medical condition characterized by a lot more than being organized."
- For when your colleague calls your friend lazy for missing so much work: "They are going through a difficult time right now, she would be here if she could."
Think about how mental health is brought up in your every day conversations - how can you change the comments to be more positive? Lets work together to reduce stigma and raise awareness about mental health!
#BellLetsTalk day is special to L&L Consulting as it was on this day last year that we launched our website and blog! We thought it was a perfect day to launch our initiative as it aligns well with Bell's goals of reducing mental health stigma and raising awareness of mental health.
Thanks for all your support this year! Keep commenting, sharing and raising awareness about mental health in the workplace!
