For Mental Health Awareness Week we are reflecting on stigma and disclosing Mental Illness in the workplace.
In a recent article from the Toronto Star "Doctors' Notes: Work with your employers to cope with mental health issues", they discuss a recent study indicating that 61% of Ontario workers say they would disclose a mental illness to their boss, and 39% say they would not.
The biggest reason reported for not wanting to disclose a mental illness is that it would “hurt their careers” – do you agree? We would like to hear from you - please fill out the poll below!
What are you and your organization doing to raise awareness about mental health this month? Raising awareness is the first step to decrease stigma around mental health, and to develop more open, supportive workplace cultures.
